S1 and S2 follow an integrated science course which teaches aspects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics and how science affects our everyday lives. The course is designed to link with the science taught in Primary and the separate science courses taught in S3.
Pupils in S3 and S4 can study Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses. Selection to study single science courses occurs at the end of S2 with Biology, Chemistry and Physics being offered at Standard Grade (General and Credit levels). In addition, one course at Intermediate 1/Access 3 level is also offered each year.
In S5 and S6, courses are offered at Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Managing Environmental Resources (MER). Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning with Personal Learning Plans.
Our present courses are continually being reviewed to ensure that
- there is a coordinated approach with other areas of the school.
- every pupil fulfils his or her potential by gaining good national qualifications.
- pupils acquire scientific knowledge which will be useful to them throughout life.
As the courses taught may vary from year to year, additional information on the subjects and levels available can be found in the Course Choice booklets.
