Welcome to Art & Design
These web pages aim to give a brief insight into the work of the Art & Design Department in The Community School of Auchterarder (Secondary). We have tried to reflect our ethos and the diversity of work within the Department.
This year, we are continuing to prepare for the full implementation of a Curriculum for Excellence with a variety of experiences and activities for pupils. A wide ranging programme of cross-curricular events is planned for this year under the theme of International Education. This is, in part, because of the school’s Connecting Classrooms project. TCSoA has twinned with Bangladeshi schools and this, the first year of the project, is about ‘Getting to Know You’, so we have planned lessons and activities around this. We are also using Malawi as a theme this year as there is a summit planned at Gleneagles Hotel, on the 5th Anniversary of the G8. We are liasing with Religeous & Moral Education (RME) in order to plan a visit to the Samye Ling Buddist Monastry in the Scottish Borders.
Within the Department, we regularly organise a wide range of workshops, trips and visits. In previous years, we have attended both the Glasgow Film Festival and the Dundee Childrens Film Festival with the Media Studies classes. We have organised printmaking and embroidery workshops for senior pupils with visiting specialists.
Junior pupils have visited the Burrell Collection in Glasgow and
The National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. Standard Grade and Higher pupils have attended artist/designer led workshops in GOMA (including one with the late Steven Campbell).
Pupils are offered lunchtime access to the Dept, by arrangement, to do homework to catch up on classwork/meet deadlines.
There are currently 3 staff in the Department: Mrs Bayne (Acting Principal Teacher), Mrs Waite (part-time) and Miss Graham.
