The LRC has an excellent selection (some 10,000) books - both Non-Fiction and Fiction. Books in the non-fiction section are shelved according to category so that pupils can easily find books appropriate to the subject they are looking for.

The LRC also subsribes to two on-line learning resources - Heinemann World Book and ProQuest Learning News. Pupils are able to access both of these using the user name and password on the intranet home page. There is also an extensive Reference section, including encyclopedias and dictionaries. These books always remain in the LRC for pupils to use for homework projects.

The LRC is also used extensively by teachers throughout all departments who need to use the computers and books for class activities. There are 20 PCs available and they offer many facilities including Intranet and Internet access, access to the LRC catalogue, UCAS Electronic Application system, CD-ROMs, CD Writers and DVD Writers (5 computers).

For our Senior pupils the LRC offers a quiet and comfortable place to study, read books and use the PCs. There are 40 seats in the study areas, and daily and local newspapers for keeping up-to date. There is also a Careers section which holds information on both further education and choosing a career, as well as job seeking skills such as completing application forms and designing a good CV.

Chess is a very popular activity in the LRC. Pupils play at breaktimes, lunchtimes and at the After School Chess Club. There are occasional tournaments which always prove popular. Chess is enjoyable in itself, but is also good for pupils in the areas of planning, mental agility, calculation and social interaction.
